Gold Mermaid - Andy Le Artistry
“Do you know the story of the little mermaid?
Mermaids, although a mythical creature shares so many parallels to the journey of being a women in society.
This piece for me holds a special pace in my heart because I was inspired by the amazing women in my life. From my best friends, to mentors and teachers, and to my mom, grandma, aunts and cousins, they all influenced my life for the better.
You have your sirens 🧜♀️ aggressive, strong, and feared by men. And then you have the little mermaid, doing everything right, yet still suffers to the satisfaction of men. Much like all throughout history and even now, women can achieve the greatest and still be put down. society for some reason can’t seem to believe that women can be leaders and be okay with that. It’s a narrative that has been written since the dawn of time, that girls must listen, they must obey, take care of men, and that they’re weaker. But god, they are just as equal or even better.
Now go read about the little mermaid, the real version, the Grimm one, and see the parallels to society ✌🏼 there’s so much deeper meaning embedded in these fairytales that we really never notice.” - artist statement by Andy Le Artistry
